Constantin Lieb talks to Kateřina Tučková and Jaroslav Rudiš from the guest country, the Czech Republic, about the art and craft of turning a novel into a screenplay.

 Kateřina Tučková’s best-selling novel "Gerta. Das deutsche Mädchen" has just been adapted into a historical miniseries and will be featured on Arte this October. How did the original author find the adaptation process? Were there many changes, and were they for the better or for the worse? Last but not least: how does it feel to present this German-Czech story in Frankfurt?

Jaroslav Rudiš is a novelist and screenwriter who writes in both Czech and German. He is currently collaborating with screenwriter Martin Behnke on the adaptation of his novel "Winterberg’s letzte Reise". Is it easier or harder to turn your own novel into a screenplay? How does the work differ between a novel and a screenplay? And why does Jaroslav Rudiš switch between languages as easily as others switch holiday destinations?
