David Stecher, Director of the Prague Literature House for German-Language Authors, will recall and describe the origins of the institution as instigated by writer and journalist Lenka Reinerová (1916–2008), Prague’s last German-language author. To mark the 110th anniversary of her birth, Labyrint has published Lenka Reinerová: Neverending Friendships, a monograph by Viera Glosíková, a Prague-based Germanist and friend of Lenka’s. The presentation will refer to documents published here for the first time. The book places the life and work of Lenka Reinerová within a broader socio-political and cultural context, returning the reader to interwar Prague, exploring her time in exile and post-war return to Europe, and reflecting on the 1950s and the later 20th century. It also discusses the ups and downs of Reinerová’s life and career, and the era and conditions in which she lived. A record of conversations and experiences shared with Lenka Reinerová complement the overall portrait.
