Open discussion with Alex Averbuch

In Alex Averbuch’s poetry, the body becomes an archive of a Babylonian Ukraine: multilingual, wounded and full of contradictions. His poems lead us to his native eastern Ukraine and draw on family archives, letters and personal mementos that bear witness to interethnic violence, Nazi forced labour and the Holocaust. His poetics of being in-between brings genealogy together with testimony, leaving forgiveness, overcoming the past and reconciliation as open questions.
