SHABBY: A DOG’S STORY by James L. Younghusband is a deeply touching and evocative novel that celebrates the profound, life-altering impact a rescue animal can have on a human soul. Written with immense warmth and vulnerability, the story follows the unforgettable journey of an ordinary, older shelter dog who possesses an extraordinary capacity for love.

The narrative introduces readers to Shabby, an odd-looking, older ball of wilted fur waiting in a shelter for someone to look past his age and see his heart. When he is finally brought home, what follows is not just a story of a human saving a pet, but a mutual rescue. As the chapters unfold—navigating everything from early growing pains and training challenges to moments of quiet connection—Shabby becomes a pillar of strength, a source of unyielding joy, and a bridge to deeper emotional healing for his owner.

Woven with rich themes of companionship, resilience, and the sweet gentleness that age lends to a faithful animal, this novel captures the true essence of what it means to share a life with a canine companion. It beautifully demonstrates that a good dog isn't simply born; he is made through patience, love, and the devotion of a good person. Perfect for fans of Marley & Me and The Art of Racing in the Rain, SHABBY is a poignant, unforgettable tribute to the hidden treasures waiting in animal shelters and a powerful reminder that old dogs are often the best dogs of all.
