Understanding a Changing World: Writing and Reading in Wartime
Discussion with Artem Chekh, Myroslav Laiuk, Eugene Lir and Pavlo “Pashtet” Belianskyi
Moderator: Dietrich Brants
What role does literature play in wartime? In Ukraine, a new body of literature is emerging not in retrospect, but in real time – often between combat missions. What happens to literary form and language under such conditions? Can literature keep pace with events that are still unfolding? And how does the experience of reading change depending on the audience’s distance from the war? The authors discuss these questions from the perspective of their own writing practice.
