Alena Mornštajnová’s meticulously crafted, multi-award-winning novels, many of which have also been published in German translation, have sold over a million copies in Czechia alone, making them among the country’s bestsellers. Danuše Siering makes selections for her anthology Buch über Bücher [Book about Books] from the very best contemporary and older Czech literature. Ondřej Cikán, who writes in both Czech and German, has been awarded the Austrian State Prize for Literary Translation for his translations of Czech classics. The three of them will come together to discuss innovation and tradition in literature. What does the public want to read? What treasures of Czech literature are as yet unknown in the German-speaking countries? What does Alena Mornštajnová read? Which works are required reading in Czech schools? And how do Danuše Siering and Ondřej Cikán choose the very best?
