About

Writer Kateřina Tučková and publisher Danuše Siering discuss works of Czech literature that appeal to readers abroad and what we say about ourselves through our books. One writes Czech stories, the other presents them to foreign readerships. What obstacles must a Czech book overcome before it finds readers abroad? A book is about more than its text. How far does its visual form – cover, typography, illustrations, photographs – inform our first impression and feed our expectations? Sometimes, by opening just one book, we open the door on an entire country and its culture.
