Guardians of Earth – Hera's Journey
A Virtual Reality Experience
Put on the headset and become a guardian of the Earth.
Guardians of Earth is a virtual and mixed reality experience that tells the story of Hera, the European Space Agency's planetary defence spacecraft, and of the technology that makes it possible. Developed by DIVE in cooperation with ESA.
At the booth you can:
🚀 Join Hera's journey — travel with the probe to the binary asteroid system of Didymos and Dimorphos in an immersive 360° experience that launches you into the cosmos.
🚶 Walk on Dimorphos — step onto the surface of the first celestial body ever moved by humankind, explore its low-gravity environment and change the gravity to feel how movement itself transforms.
🛰️ Rebuild the probe — take Hera apart and put it back together piece by piece in mixed reality, discovering the instruments inside this marvel of aerospace engineering, cable by cable.
🌍 Discover planetary defence — learn why Hera matters. Following NASA's DART mission, which changed an asteroid's course for the first time in history, Hera is studying the impact aftermath to gather the data that could one day divert a hazardous asteroid away from Earth.
🏠 Hera @ Home — explore the spacecraft in augmented reality on your own device: zoom in, rotate it, and open it up to reveal its inner components.
ABOUT DIVE
DIVE is an immersive technology studio based in Rome, Italy. We design and build virtual reality, mixed reality and real-time 3D experiences for science, culture and education, combined with gamification and artificial intelligence — working alongside space agencies, museums, publishers and cultural institutions.
Gamification is how we hold attention: progression, challenge and play turn a subject people would politely skim into one they want to finish. Artificial intelligence is how we make those experiences respond — environments and characters that react to each visitor rather than replaying the same script, and production pipelines that let a small studio build worlds at a scale that would otherwise be out of reach.
What we make is meant to be stepped into, not watched. Complex subjects become places you can visit, objects you can take apart, journeys you can take yourself. It is the most direct way we know to make people care about something they had never thought about before.
