IRCAI – International Research Centre on Artificial Intelligence under the auspices of UNESCO is a Category 2 Centre located at the Jožef Stefan Institute in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Established in 2020, IRCAI promotes the ethical, inclusive, and sustainable development of artificial intelligence in support of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by fostering international research collaboration, capacity building, and innovation. Through its global network of researchers, policymakers, industry, and cultural institutions, IRCAI advances responsible AI across sectors including education, science, culture, governance, and sustainable development.
The Journal of Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Development (JAISD) serves as a critical platform to examine the ethical dimensions of AI and propose responsible, equitable, and impactful solutions to advance the UN SDGs. We curate and publish high-quality, peer-reviewed research on topics such as algorithmic fairness, transparency, accountability, environmental impact, and the intersection of technological innovation and societal well-being. JAISD was conceptualized in 2020 within the NAIXUS Network of Excellence, a global collaboration on Artificial Intelligence, Knowledge, and Sustainable Development. NAIXUS connects researchers across cultures, languages, and regions, with founding partners from over 20 countries spanning five continents. The journal was officially launched in collaboration with the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS), Cape Town, South Africa. It operates on a rolling submission basis. All papers are published online and freely accessible.
