As part of the Frankfurt International Book Fair 2026 and the Week of the Italian Language in the World, the Italian Cultural Institute of Cologne is organizing a literary meeting with Raffaella Romagnolo on October 8 at 7:00 PM at the Deutsch-Italienische Vereinigung (Arndtstr. 12, Frankfurt). During the evening, the author will present her novel Respira con me (Pelledoca, 2019) in a dialogue with Paola Barbon.

Amedeo non ha dubbi: suo padre è un bastardo e la gita su Punta Liberté gli suona quasi come una punizione. A scuola non ci va più da un mese, ma in casa nessuno lo sa. E ora questa strana idea: due giorni interi da solo con il padre. Da dietro il ciuffo di capelli lunghi, Amedeo osserva la vallata, la cima a 3.400 metri e il punto da cui inizia il percorso, fino al rifugio Fontanafredda, prima tappa della scalata. Zaino, scarponi, qualche ricambio, giacca pesante e soprattutto niente cellulare. La montagna è una galera, solo salita e sassi. La parete rocciosa gli mette paura. Il ricordo della madre, morta in un incidente lo accompagna per tutto il tempo e il fastidio per la compagnia del padre si fa sempre più forte. L’unico antidoto è pensare a Lucilla, ma non basta, perché la montagna è spietata e ha in serbo per lui una terribile sorpresa.

Born in Casal Monferrato, Raffaella Romagnolo lives and works in Piedmont, where she teaches Italian and History in Ovada, is a member of the scientific committee of the Institute for the History of the Resistance in Alessandria, and collaborates with La Stampa and Il Secolo XIX. A prolific author, she has published the novels La masnà (2012), Tutta questa vita (2013), La figlia sbagliata (2015), Destino (2018), Di luce propria (2021), Il cedro del Libano (2023, Premio Campiello Natura), Aggiustare l’universo (2023, finalist for the 2024 Strega Prize), and La segreta cura (2026). Respira con me (2019) was a finalist for the Strega Ragazzi e Ragazze Prize 2020. Her books are translated into seven languages.

Paola Barbon, originally from Milan, lives and works between Münster and her hometown. After working for many years as an Italian lector at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum, she is currently active as a moderator, dramaturg, translator, and interpreter.
