"How to Turn an Idea into a Comic"

Comics writer Jose A. Pérez Ledo and artist Álex Orbe will guide attendees through the process of turning their own ideas into a comic, exploring each stage through images and videos — from scripting to colouring and lettering.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS

JOSE ANTONIO PÉREZ LEDO — SPAIN — COMICS WRITER

Jose A. Pérez Ledo (Bilbao, 1979) is a screenwriter and author. His published novels include Esto no es una historia de amor (Planeta, 2016) and Cementerio de secretos (Plaza & Janés, 2023).

He has created and directed several cultural television programmes, including Órbita Laika and Ovejas Eléctricas, both broadcast on TVE, and has contributed to the writing of various television series, most recently Her Majesty (Prime Video).

He is the writer of two graphic novels — El invasor (Astiberri, 2024) and Los enciclopedistas (Astiberri, 2018) — both illustrated by Álex Orbe.

ÁLEX ORBE — SPAIN — ILLUSTRATOR AND COMIC BOOK ARTIST

Álex Orbe is a professional illustrator and comic book author born in Barakaldo (Basque Country) in 1973. Over the course of his career, he has worked as an illustrator of children's books, textbooks and advertising, and has contributed to animated productions, including Alberto Vázquez's Decorado, which won the Goya Award for Best Animated Film in 2016.

Among the children's books he has illustrated are titles in Basque — Maite zaitut, Nadia, Labarreko Itsasargia, Hiru sopranoak, Ixon, Lehenengo Musuaren Zain, Errotazarreko Kluba and Erraldoiek ez dute lagunik jaten — and in Spanish, ¿Dónde están las llaves? (Anaya), the series Si fueras... un animal (La esfera azul) and Gigantes.

In comics, he has published the albums Los Enciclopedistas and El invasor — both with scripts by José A. Pérez Ledo — and Sigue a la hormiga, scripted by Unai Elorriaga. He has also contributed to several anthologies: Fito, Y de repente la luna and El gran Wyoming. Mil palos y ninguno al agua (BAO komikiak). For the Belgian market, he has published the Franco-Belgian comic The New War of the Buttons and the series The Adventures of the Bourlingueur (By the Napo and The Barges of the Congo).
