The starting point for this conversation is Prague Noir, the anthology edited by Pavel Mandys, bringing together fourteen stories by Czech writers. Ranging from more traditional crime fiction to horror, the uncanny and other forms of genre writing, the stories use crime, danger and the fantastic to explore the city and the society in which they are set.
Taking Prague Noir as its point of departure, the panel asks why crime, horror and speculative fiction can be such powerful ways of writing about the real world. How can genre make social conflicts, political realities, violence and structures of power visible? And what connections can be found between contemporary genre writing in Czechia, Korea and Germany?
With Pavel Mandys, Korean writer and translator Bora Chung and German writer Zoë Beck.
Deutsch
