How does a story rooted in a small Taiwanese town find its way to readers around the world?
In Ghost Town, Kevin Chen returns to the fictionalized world of his hometown in rural Taiwan, weaving together family secrets, memories, and the lives of those who left and those who stayed. Since its publication, the novel has travelled far beyond Taiwan, reaching readers across languages and cultures—including Germany, where it was published as Geisterdämmerung by Matthes & Seitz Berlin.
In this talk, Chen shares the unexpected journey of Ghost Town: from the place and memories that inspired the novel to its life in translation and encounters with readers around the world. What happens when a deeply local story crosses borders, and what can remain—or change—as it finds a new home in another language?
The talk will be held in German and followed by a book signing.
