Romania will be Guest of Honour at the Frankfurter Buchmesse in 2028, and the preparations start now. On Friday, 9 October, from 09.00 to 10.00, we invite publishers, agents, translators and journalists to a professional breakfast at the Leseinsel der unabhängigen Verlage, Hall 3.0, stand C69. The event is hosted by Alexandru Popescu, Cultural Expert at the Ministry of Culture of Romania, with presentations by Bogdan Popescu, Director of the Romanian National Book Centre, and Bogdan-Alexandru Stănescu, author, translator and editor at Trei Publishing House. Together they will introduce the concept of the Guest of Honour presentation, the authors and the publishing landscape behind it, and the practical steps international partners can take over the next two years.

The breakfast is also the occasion to present the special funding session opened by the Romanian Cultural Institute through the National Book Centre. Dedicated to the Frankfurt Book Fair 2028, the call brings together the Translation and Publication Support Programme and Publishing Romania, offering funding to publishers who translate Romanian authors into German and English. Applications open on 15 September 2026 and close on 15 November 2026 at 23.59 EET, at cennac.ro, with tps@icr.ro and publishingromania@icr.ro as contact points.
