About

Vinyl and Book Release Party and Dance Party with el mar (DJ)

Following two exhibitions at the museum on the significance of Braille and other tactile writing systems, the DIALOGMUSEUM presents two new publications:

A TOUCH OF TYPE, edited by Isabel Naegele and Stephanie Kaplan, documents years of research on the Braille writing system and other forms of tactile writing. In addition, questions regarding perception, the significance of our senses, the primacy of the visual, as well as peripheral phenomena such as eye charts for determining visual acuity, poems, and experimental films have found their way into the “card index”. This richly illustrated journey takes readers through books, museum archives, and collections of all kinds. The volume captures encounters with experts who, for a wide variety of reasons, engage with tactile writing systems.

The vinyl record SOUND OF READING. BRAILLE is based on the audiovisual installation of the same name, which was shown this summer at the DIALOGMUSEUM as part of World Design Capital. The release of the vinyl offers the opportunity to listen to Petty Waagö, the blind team leader of the DIALOGMUSEUM, reading a book in Braille.

el mars’ sound is shaped by the Latin American influences of his childhood. The musical diversity he experienced paved the way for his universal taste in music. His style is eclectic, and he approaches each set as its own story and journey through different rhythms and genres.
