Fine Art Painting and the Viewer: Exercises for Understanding Art is intended for art teachers
and for all who would like to contemplate art more deeply, engage in discussion about it, and
perhaps create some art themselves. The methods listed have been illustrated using artworks
from the collection of the Latvian National Museum of Art.
The book summarizes the methods and tasks of exploring painting. They reflect different
ways of cognizing a work of art: descriptive, analytical, interpretative and evaluative. The
edition is aimed at art teachers, museum educators, art students and parents of children who want to
indulge in painting, talk about art, turn to creativity and teach it to others.
