Reading Stars Phonics is a complete programme for teaching students to read English. It has two main elements:
The Reading Stars Phonics Teaching Programme
A complete, systematic synthetic phonics programme to deliver high quality phonics teaching. Divided into five phases, the programme includes one handbook for each of the phases, together with all the resources necessary to support teaching, including detailed lesson plans, flashcards, student workbooks, wall friezes, posters and handwriting sheets.
The Reading Stars Phonics Reading Books
A programme of 250 structured reading books, supporting the teaching programme on a week-by-week basis, from the beginning of Phase 1 to the end of Phase 5. The books are fully decodable at all stages, so students never need to guess.
Reading Stars Achieve Phonics
For some children, phonics takes longer to master, so an additional 98 titles make up our age-appropriate series, Reading Stars Achieve Phonics.
Designed for older students who still need explicit phonics teaching, it follows the same rigorous, carefully sequenced progression as Ransom’s popular Reading Stars Phonics programme, while offering age-appropriate, engaging content that respects the interests and experiences of older learners.
Teaching phonics on its own is not enough to create good readers – reading is an essential part of the learning process. The Reading Stars Phonics readers are designed to support the phonics teaching, to build reading fluency and to create a love of reading – all the while engaging and captivating the reader.
