Beschreibung

Charlie Scheidt, the only child of German-Jewish refugees from Frankfurt, and Kat Rohrer, the granddaughter of a Nazi officer, came together to uncover his family’s hidden past during the Holocaust. After his mother’s death, Scheidt discovered a trove of historic documents that set him on a decade-long journey to trace his family’s harrowing efforts to escape Nazi-occupied Europe. As they investigated, they uncovered stories of survival and loss.

The book has deep roots in Frankfurt: Scheidt’s father was born and raised in the city’s Ostend, his mother’s family lived in the Westend, and his parents met here around 1930.

In this presentation, Scheidt and Rohrer will discuss the journey behind their book Inheritance: Love, Loss, and the Legacy of the Holocaust and its exploration of the long-lasting effects of inherited trauma, history’s enduring scars, the importance of remembrance, and healing across generations.

Inheritance is the winner of the 2026 International Book Award for Narrative Nonfiction and a Silver Medalist in the 2026 Independent Publisher Book Awards.

A signing will follow in the Global Stage networking area, where attendees will be able to learn more about the book, speak with Charlie and Kat, and purchase copies of Inheritance
