The unforgettable story “The Mezzanine” from Yuan Huan’s Phone Booth, translated into 22 languages and awarded the Premio Rodari, becomes a graphic novel through the distinctive artwork of Ali Çetinkaya.
What would you do if you found yourself trapped inside a story?
The son of a publishing house owner loves spending time at his father’s workplace, especially in the graphic design department. When he meets a mysterious writer whose manuscript his father has refused to publish, she tells him about a secret floor hidden inside the building.
Curious, he follows her instructions and finds himself trapped in a frozen world where people, animals, cars, and even clouds have stopped moving. He soon discovers that these are the characters from the writer’s unpublished story, condemned to remain there because their story was never published.
To escape, he must find a way to bring the story back to life and ultimately write his own way out. In the mezzanine, words have the power not only to tell a story, but to change what happens.
A witty and imaginative graphic novel about publishing, unfinished stories, and the power of storytelling, The Mezzanine turns the world of books into a fantastical adventure.
