Sigma ist ein japanischer Hersteller von Fotoobjektiven und Kameras. Geleitet von der Philosophie „The Art of Engineering, Engineering for Art“ ist das Unternehmen bestrebt, kompromisslose optische Technologie für Künstler, Kreative und Profis in allen visuellen Medien zu entwickeln.

Die Sigma Foundation wurde 2025 von Sigma-Präsident Kazuto Yamaki gegründet und dient Sigma als spezielle Plattform zur Unterstützung und Förderung der zeitgenössischen Fotografie. Im ersten Jahr arbeitete die Stiftung mit den weltbekannten Fotografen Sølve Sundsbø und Julia Hetta zusammen, um zwei Fotobücher mit Werken beider Künstler zu produzieren. Mit dem dritten Buch, das dem Werk des britischen Fotografen Trevor Key gewidmet ist, setzt die Sigma Foundation diese Initiative fort und würdigt damit einen weiteren prägenden Vertreter der zeitgenössischen Fotografie.
